The National Orientation Agency has called on stakeholders and
governments at all levels to assist youths in harnessing their potential for
national development.
The Lagos State Coordinator of the Agency, Alhaji Waheed
Ishola, gave the advice during the 60th Anniversary lecture of the National
Youth Council of Nigeria Lagos State Chapter.
According to him, developing youth competencies will enhance
growth in the country.
He said, “With appropriate empowerment through training and
guidance, Nigerian youths could provide the much needed manpower for the
country.
“We must empower Nigerian youths for economic development and
national peace because they are vital source of manpower and once their innate
potential is fully channelled and exploited their contributions could be
harnessed towards taking the nation to the next level.”
He, however, advised youths to adhere to ethical standards for
the progress of the country.
“For any nation to develop, its citizens including the youths
must be guided by some principles. They must imbibe the value of honesty, hard
work, obedience and tolerance,” he said.
The Chairman, Independent Shareholders’ Association of Nigeria,
Mr. Sunny Nwosu, challenged the youths to embark on trainings that would boost
their contributions to national development.
He added, “Youths must restore the vibrancy known with Nigerian
youths so that government will have more respect for them.”
