Southern CAN condemns bombings

Southern Christian Association of Nigeria has condemned the activities of Boko Haram as it commiserates with Christians in the North on the killing of some of their members by suicide bombers.

The group said this in a statement by its chairman, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh; Vice-Chairman, Archbishop George; and Secretary, Apostle Joseph Ajujungwa; at the end of an extra-ordinary meeting in Lagos on Wednesday.

The statement read, “We condemn the incessant bombings and bloodletting in different parts of Northern Nigeria and therefore call on the Federal Government and other relevant authorities to find an end to this menace.

“We identify fully and commiserate with all Christians and other Nigerians in the North who have suffered unprovoked violence and destruction of lives and properties.”

The body, which is drawn from all the 17 states in the South, urged Nigerians promote unity and not destruction.

The group said, “We warn the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to desist forthwith in the interest of our unity.”

It also appealed to northern elite, including religious leaders and politicians, to rise to the challenges of the Boko Haram menace.

It, however, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to remain steadfast and resolute in delivering his election promises to Nigerians.
