Lawmaker to empower okada riders
A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1, Mr. Saka Fafunmi, has said operators of commercial motorcycles, popularly called okada, affected by the traffic law in the constituency, would be trained on vocational skills.
The lawmaker, who spoke at constituency briefing in Lagos on Monday, also said vocational training would be held for school leavers.
He said, “We should all serve as role model and the only way we can improve the community is to attack the minds of the young ones. We have to sharpen their minds towards positive matters.”
He said empowerment activities like fashion designing and information and communication technology among others would be taught.
He also explained that it was necessary to provide a means of livelihood for those affected by the traffic laws in order to change their mindset
He added, “The empowerment programme was part of the moves to rehabilitate constituents affected by the traffic laws. We must understand that the major responsibility of government is to provide safety.”
