Accidents higher in Lagos during festivals – FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Surulere Command, said Lagos State usually have increased rate of accidents during festive periods.
The Commander, Mr. Olu Afolarin, said this at a safety precaution programme at Iponri Housing Estate Central Mosque.
According to him, celebrations should not be an excuse for disobeying safety regulations.
He said “We appeal to the people to keep safety precautions at all times. As we celebrate, we should be cautious and moderate in the way we drive. Accidents are increasing during festivals in the country. Cars cannot have accidents on their own.
“We should be very patient while driving because it is when we live that we can celebrate. We should not be reckless.”
The Chief Imam of the Iponri Housing Estate Central Mosque, Alhaji Gazal Adepoju, urged FRSC to continue the sensitisation in places of worship.
He said this would go a long way to reduce accidents in the state.
He noted that people tend to be more cooperative when they get a message from their religious institutions.
He said, “This is a very good move. Sensitisation in mosques and churches have a lot of blessings because people there have the fear of God. It is important to obey the law; I appeal to the people to adhere strictly to safety precautions for them to live longer.”
