Four arrested over Lagos violence
March 6, 2012 by Sodiq Oyeleke
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four persons in connection with the violence in the Ebute Meta area of the state on Sunday.
Spokesperson for the command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, said no one was killed in the violence but many vehicles were vandalised.
He said, “On March, 3, 2012, around 11pm, Mr. Monsuru Alao, a member of the House of Representatives, was accosted by about five hoodlums around Lion Junction, Ebute Meta, but he refused to give them money and they went violent.
“Alao called the Divisional Police Officer, Denton, Mr. James Chu, who ordered his men to investigate the matter and escort the lawmaker home.
“The next day (Sunday), men loyal to Alao went to his residence and sought to retaliate but Alao urged them not to do so. However, his pleas fell on deaf ears.
“His supporters took to the streets, vandalising vehicles parked along the road but the police came in to restore peace. Four people were arrested and one person was injured and taken to hospital but has now been discharged.”
