Kwara Students Protest Saraki's Prolonged Trial
Members of the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) on Thursday in Abuja staged a protest over what they claimed to be the prolonged trial of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Mr Abdulazeez El-Imam, the President of the Senate Council of NAKSS, said the case has metamorphosed into a persecution of sort and it affecting Saraki's work at the Senate.
"This is a body standing in for the 1.6 million Kwara students within Nigeria and diaspora. We are here to show solidarity with the President of the Senate Bukola Saraki.
"We are tired of the case in court. This is no more prosecution but persecution and it has to end. It is disturbing the peace of the country and not allowing him to focus on his parliamentary duties.
"As we know, he paid the UTME fee of 1200 students and we want Nigerians to know that they only want to bring him down. They are not giving him the opportunity to serve.
" We are tired of the case," he said.
Saraki has been facing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for false declaration of assets since late 2015.
The case was adjourned indefinitely today by the chairman, Danladi Umar, pending the ruling by the Supreme Court over appeals filed by Saraki and the Federal Government.
