Boxing Night: Nigeria's Skoro To Battle Kenya's Nyawade For ABU Union Title

Nigeria's Waidi 'Skoro' Usman will battle Michael 'Shaka' Nyawade of Kenya in an African Boxing Union Featherweight title fight as the 14th edition of the Gotv Boxing championship comes up in Lagos.

The event is packaged by Flykite promotions and sponsored by Multichoice Nigeria Limited, the owners of GOtv digital satellite networks with the backing of the Nigeria Board of Control (NBB of C).

Skoro in an interview said he was going to beat his opponent in a technical knockout at round four.

"I will destroy him, he would not last round four, I really want this title to prove to the rest of the world what I can do when I get to the ring.

"The Kenyan would be no match for me, I promise to win the title for Nigeria, ' Usman said.

Another top international between Rilwan 'Babyface' Babatunde and Djossou 'Agoy' Basile of the Republic of Benin is also set up to ignite the boxing arena on fight day.

The two fighters would go pound for pound for the African Boxing Union Welterweight title.

"I am in a good state of mind, I have trained for this and I know it is great opportunity to launch myself, I promise Nigerians victory on that day," Babatunde said

At the home front, Sulaimon Adeosun would fight Ramon Ramon Adedoyin in a national light heavyweight challenge in a freshers' fight.

Chukwuebuka 'Wise King' Ezewudo comes up against Kazeem Nofiu in a National Welterweight contest as Prince 'Lion' Nwoye dares boxing sensational Oto 'Joe boy' Joseph in a national lightweight title.

Abiodun 'Finito' Afini will take on Ramonb 'Hyena' Razaq in a national cruiserweight challenge while Kazeem 'Ijoba' Badmus take on Rilwan 'Real One' Oladosu for the national lightweight title.

Jenkings Alumona told NAN that the boxing event was set up to respond specifically for the yearnings of boxing fans in Lagos and beyond.

He also said that with the backing Gotv networks, no fewer than 60 African countries would watch the event live on their television.

"This event promises to be action packed as the fighters have been carefully selected to promote them and give them a chance to launch themselves to stardom.

"We are happy to deliver boxing in its best to all lovers of the sport and with the sponsors backing us all the way it is just the beginning,'' Alumona said.

The organizers also said that the best boxer at the event would  go home with N1 million cash prize attached to the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.

There will also be Gotv decoders to be won by fans at the event which is scheduled to hold at the Indoor sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.
