Slain Ooni’s security guard buried amidst tears
Family members, friends and colleagues, on Monday, were full of
tears when the remains of Mr. Marquis Olatunji, an officer of the
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps attached to the Ooni f Ife, Oba
Adeyeye Ogunwusi, were buried in Osogbo.
The body was buried at Oke Ayepe Area of Osogbo after a short service
conducted by Rev. D.D. Olaonipekun of the Foursquare Gospel Church at
his graveside.
The casket bearing his remains was taken to the NSCDC headquarters
along Ilesa Road, Osogbo, for a brief lying-in- state and a parade of
honour was held for Olatunji, who was killed at his duty post on
February 7 by some gunmen.
During the service, Olaonipekun admonished those present to always remember that everybody would die one day.
“Death is the ultimate end of every mortal man. We all must be ready
to give an account of how we spent our lives here on earth one day,” he
added.
It was learnt that the officer was shot in front of the house while going to buy a recharge card for his cellphone.
The deceased had earlier informed his colleague that he would soon be
back from where he went to buy the card before he met his death.
The robbers were said to be coming from an operation when they saw Olatunji and shot him repeatedly.
Thereafter, the bandits were said to have ran away and shot sporadically on the air to scare residents of the area.
