Residents of Osogbo on Monday joined the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) to protest against 45 per cent increase in the electricity tariff.
The protesters locked out staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company(IBEDC), preventing them from operating.
The angry protesters pasted different banners with various inscription on the main entrance of the company to further express their grievances.
A member of the labour union, Mr Solomon Adubi, said that the gate was locked to make the protest more effective and significant.
He described the increment in the electricity tariff was to make lives more painful to the citizens.
Solomon urged the Federal Government to listen to the plights of Nigerians and do the needful.
A Senior staff of IBEDC, Mr Fisayo Ajayi, who spoke to our correspondent, said the protest was peaceful and devoid of any rancour.
He said, "the workers came as early as 8.00am, they ordered everyone of us to stop what we were doing and go outside.
"They were very organized and coordinated, they did not hurt anybody. They only warned us against going back to work after they must have left."
