Police arraign man for stealing N1.2m worth beers at journalists center

A 31-year-old man, Yemi Adeoye, has been arraigned  before an Osogbo magistrate court for allegedly stealing beers at the Press Centre of Osun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists.  

The prosecutor, Inspector of the Osun State Police Command, Taiwo Adegoke, said the accused who was the sales manager of Bola Garba Nigeria Limited stole beers worth N1,248,380 from the company's store and absconded.

Adegoke told the court that Yemi committed the offence on the 27th of January and that the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 390 (9) (6) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 11, Laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2003.

he prosecutor said, "Yemi stole 84 cartons of Goldberg drinks, 30 cartons Henik, 8 cartons of 33beer, 3cartons of Root drinks, one carton of passion drink, 8 crates of farouz, 94 crates of mailtina, 155cartons of Trophy beer, 2 C. Milk drinks, 15 Gold malt, 2 1960 drinks, 82 empty cartons of international breweries products, 127 empty carton of assorted drinks and sum of N371,070.l

The accused pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of theft preferred against him.

His counsel, Mr Mudasiru Balogun, appealed to the court to be lenient with his client and urged the court to grant him bail.

The presiding judge, Magistrate Ademola Olowolagba granted the bail with N2million and two sureties in the like sum.

The sureties must swear an affidavit of means and one of the sureties must be a civil servant of not below level 9.

The judge also said the other surety must provide tax clearance certificate while the two sureties and the accused must submit their passports to the court. The judge adjourned the matter to 31st of March, 2016.
