Hoodlums lay siege on Fountain University fence, demand N30m
Suspected hoodlums have stormed the campus of Fountain University, Osogbo, requesting that they are paid N30m 'entittlement' before any fence can be erected.
It was learnt that the university management had ordered erection of the fence to protect students from further harassment by hoodlums.
It will be recalled that some hoodlums recently invaded the University's hostel.
Our correspondent gathered that the tugs, numbering about 30 are claiming to be the owner of the land on which the University built its structures.
However, the management of the University has appealed to Osun government to intervene before the thugs begin to harm the students.
The management made the appeal during a courtesy visit to Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday.
Chairman Governing Council, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, said that the thugs that invaded Fountain University were said to have come from Ibadan, in Oyo State.
"They said your predecessor did not pay them compensation and the money is now more than N30million that they will collect," he added.
Also, Chairman Board of Trustees of the University, Alh. AbdulWaheed Yinka, urged the governor to intervene in the encroachment on their land by the community.
However, Governor Aregbesola assured that urgent steps would be taken to prevent break down of law.
"The community leaders will be contacted through the monarch to investigate the cause of the matter. This office is established to ensure that peace and tranquility reign in the state. We would investigate the crisis as soon as possible," he said.
