Osun needs to develop its industries - Assembly
Osun State House of Assembly has said with the current dwindling in the price of crude oil at the global market, there was need for the state government to develop its industries to attract investors.
The Chairman, House Committee on Commerce, Industry, Cooperative and Empowerment, Honourable Babatunde Olatunji stated this at the inaugural meeting of the committee in Osogbo.
Olatunji said the Assembly would continue to partner with the executive arm of government to make the state an investment destination for both local and foreign investors.
According to him, the state could no longer depend on the federal government to fulfil its financial commitment, but needed to look inward to generate revenue for the development of the state.
"The assembly through the committee will work towards re-enactment of the glorious days of the state as the hub of commercial activities in the South-West.
"The job of the committee is a tasking one but we are resolute in playing our roles at ensuring that the government overcome the challenges in developing our industries.
"We want industrial revolution, the type that will take the state to another level," he said.
Olatunji also said the assembly would work with private investors to develop industries and commercial activities in the state.
On the issue of payment of tax, Olatunji said tax payment is a civic duty that everybody must comply with.
He urged people in the state to pay tax to enable government to perform its developmental responsibilities.
Olatunji also said the committee would work towards strengthening the cooperative societies in the state in order to make it more viable.
