The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has explained that one of its staff, Professor Solomon  Ogunniyi, who died in his office did not commit suicide.

The professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology died in his office on Thursday, 5th of November, 2015 at about 12noon.

It was learnt that one of the deceased colleague had gone to see him in the office when Ogunniyi was found dead.

A lecturer in the university told our correspondent that the deceased had before detected dead always stay unusually long in his office.

Though, students of the university earlier rumoured that the Professor committed suicide, the management of OAU said he did not.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, an autopsy conducted on the late Ogunniyi did not show any traces of suicide.

The statement read in part, "The attention of the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University has been drawn to the various media reports over the circumstances of tragic death Ogunniyi. He was discovered to have collapsed and died  in his office  sometime about noon on November 5 by a member of staff who just stopped  by to see him. The door to his office was not broken down nor forced open.

"We wish to clearly state that it has been established by an autopsy performed by distinguished pathologists of the OAU that Ogunniyi died of natural causes.  He did not commit suicide nor has there been any suspicion of foul play concerning the circumstances of his death."
