Five Injured As Yoruba, Hausa Youths Clash At Osogbo

There was a clash between some Yoruba and Hausa youths on Wednesday in Osun State, which left properties damaged and about five people reportedly injured. 

The  pandemonium, which has also led to the shut down of schools and businesses, occurred  in Sabo Area of Osogbo.

 The closed schools are: ‎Ansar-Ud-Deen Elementary School, Sabo-Eleran and St-James Elementary, Middle and High school located at Ayetoro, Sabo Area of the state capital.

 It was gathered that the fraca erupted between Yoruba youths and Hausa youths, who were smoking India hems. ‎ 

When our correspondent visited the scene, two youths were seen arrested by men of National Safety and Defense Corpse. 

According to a resident of the area identified as Seye, the hausa youths were smoking when a touch was  pointed on them. 

This, he told, our correspondent subsequently angered the Hausa youths, who started to attack houses of some Yorubas that lived in the area.‎ 

‎ The Sabo area in the state capital has majority of its residents as the Hausa youths.‎ ‎ 

Seye said, "The incident  started around 1am on Wednesday. I guess the Hausa youths felt unsafed with the torch pointed on then and they started destructing properties."

 He, however, said it took the intervention of security agencies to bring safety to the Yorubas in the area.

 ‎ "T‎he hoodlums fled when the police team arrived the scene around 2am," the resident added.‎ ‎ 

A trader in the state, Mr. Olawale Jimoh, ‎lamented that his shop was attacked. 

"I have no grudges with anybody before i closed for the day on Tuesday but  was surprise when I was called this morning by  neighbours around the that my shop has been destroyed by the Hausa people in the area," he said.

 When contacted on the telephone, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said there was "no crisis anywhere in the state".‎
