Osun tribunal: Aregbesola, Omisore know fate tomorrow
The election petition tribunal will, on Friday, deliver judgement on the petition ensuing from the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun State.
Secretary of the tribunal, Mr. Adamu Aliyu, confirmed the date to Daily Times in Osogbo on Wednesday.
Aliyu said, "Yes, the judgement is coming up on Friday, February 6, 2014.
Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, had challenged the victory of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the tribunal, arguing that Aregbesola did not have majority lawful votes during the August 9, 2014 election in the state.
Omisore had challenged and prayed the tribunal to cancel the results in some wards and units in 17 local government councils of the state.
During the last tribunal sitting, the petitioner (PDP), represented by Alex Izinyon (SAN) asked the tribunal to accept the deduction made by APC, during the presentation of written addresses.
On his part, the first respondent's counsel explained that the table as shown in EC8A tendered was clear, insisting that Omisore had no case before the tribunal.
Counsel to APC, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, described the address by the petitioner as being "strange for the law", adding that PDP failed to prove its case with enough evidence.
INEC's counsel, who was the third respondent, Mr. Ayotunde Ogunleye, argued that the petition should be dismissed, stating that it was filed out of time.
