Boko Haram: LASG assures maximum security, urges calm

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has assured the residents of maximum security, urging them not to panic over reports of Boko Haram incursion into the state.

The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Fatai Olukoga, spoke at an annual Ramadan lecture organised by the Old Students Association of Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo, Lagos.

He noted that the state had put in place security measures that guaranteed safety of lives and property.

When asked how prepared Lagos was to combat alleged Boko Haram presence, he said, "We know that there is proper security in Lagos. Those who terrorised Lagos sometime in the beginning of the year have been arrested.

"This shows that security is here to take care of them. In other All Progressives Congress' states, security is perfect and it is very difficult to get into Lagos in particular unless they have people that live among us and that is why we need to check that our neighbours and friends are who we take them to be.

"We cannot claim to be accommodating and allow people to come and serve as a source of danger to us."

The Chief Imam, The Nigerian Law School, Lagos, Muhammad Lawal, highlighted the conditions for ensuring peace in Lagos and other parts of the world.

While speaking on the topic, 'Islam, Politics and Ethics in Nigeria', he said, "Political offices should be able to transform the world from ancient living to civilisation.

"No matter the challenges, leaders must strive to bring development to their people. Our leaders must persevere, pray and fast for the nation's development."

The National President of the association urged the Federal Government and others stakeholders in the fight against Boko Haram not to handle the group as a religious sect.

He explained that no religion supported the killings of human being.

He added that it was wrong to see Boko Haram as an Islamic group.
