Nigerian Ropes laments product faking
Nigerian Ropes Plc has urged competitors and stakeholders in the rope business to abide by the ethics of the business by ensuring that their products are original.
According to the company, many businessmen in the sector do not have certification for their products, a situation that has encouraged making of sub-standard products.
The company stated this at a news conference in Lagos on Thursday to raise the alarm over faking of its certificate by some companies.
Managing Director of Nigerian Ropes, Mr. Joao Pereira, advised companies to avoid falsifying its products to avoid legal actions; adding that new methods had been deployed to protect its certificates.
He said, “We have observed with evidence that our products test certificates are being falsified/faked by some rope businessmen to cover sub-standard imported wire ropes.
“Currently, some companies have been suspected to be involved in this ill practice and investigation is ongoing to establish the culprits and others, who shall be charged legally.
“We have commenced actions to mitigate faking of our test certificate and this includes the re-designing of existing certificate format and changing the paper colour. The issuance of the new certificate will become effective by September.”
Pereira, however, pleaded with its customers to avoid placing their employees’ lives at risk by verifying the standard of ropes before using them.
He added, “We, therefore, instigate this alert for caution, and would advise all stakeholders in the rope business using Nigerian Ropes’ products to always ensure that genuine products with corresponding certifications are not just assumed but confirmed from us.
