‘Nigeria needs transparent electoral system’
Nigeria
needs a transparent electoral system that will ensure free and fair
elections in the country, a group, Diamond Fitness Club, has advised.
The President of DFC, Mr. Jude Onyebuchi, gave the advice during the election of new executive members on Monday in Lagos.
Onyebuchi said, “Good and transparent
election is good for the country to grow. We need a good electoral
system for us to have good leaders. I have not seen this type of
election before in the whole of this country and I can say that we have
set a pace for what a country or club needs to grow.”
Outgoing president of the club, Chigozie
Nwolisa, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to emulate
organisations that conduct elections without crisis.
“The election in any place should be
free and fair. I advise INEC to learn how to conduct a non-controversial
election from distinguished organisations and societies who are doing
it well. We have been established since 1999 and we have been doing it
well,” he added.
Chairman, Diamond Electoral Committee,
Okechukwu Anolue, added that good electoral system was a criterion for
the growth of the country.
“I believe that our open means of
electing officers have made us popular in the club. INEC should come and
see how we are conducting our election here with things properly
handled. We have about 160 members and they are here for the election,”
he said.
Other members who emerged after the
election were first Vice-President, Mr. Ben Amuta; second
Vice-President, Joe Mmadueke; Financial Secretary, Emeka Onyeadueke; and
Secretary, Vincent Ananti.
