NBC Employs Eight Highway Managers for Community Cleanliness
National Commercial Director of NBC, Mr. Matthieu Segui, said the company partnered the Lagos State Waste Management Authority to ensure quality delivery of the project.
According to him, it is an execution of NBC ‘Clean Street’ project, which he said, was a unique community programme of the Coca-Cola System in Nigeria.
He said: “It is the expectation of NBC that this initiative will further enhance the health and well being of the businesses and households in this community. Apongbon is renowned as a major commercial district in Lagos State and we are happy to contribute to improving the sanitary condition under which the people conduct their business activities.
“Also, the programme will empower eight persons with a means of livelihood as LAWMA Highway Managers for the district. The ‘Clean Street’ project seeks to ensure that our network of customers bring tangible benefits to the communities they operate in the area of a clean and healthy environment.
“This is borne out of our belief that as a business we can be a force for social good by enriching the lives of our local communities. NBC understands that clean communities are also healthy and wealthy communities. So we can say that by this partnership, the wealthy community of Apongbon would even become wealthier.”
Acting Managing Director, LAWMA, Mrs. Abimbola Jijoho-Ogun, who urged NBC not to relent in its effort of making the streets clean, wants the company to extend areas to be cleaned.
She said: "This is a community based social responsibility that will help people to grow. It will empower and make the community clean. The eight people today will add to others previously employed by NBC. Ours is to supervise and train those employed. We shall do that as expected to enhance efficiency.
"We expect that this will expand to other side of Lagos especially the slump areas. This will not only eradicate poverty but would serve as a means to fight crime. I urge those employed to make proper use of the opportunity they have been given to ensure continuity of the programme."
One of the beneficiaries, Ismail Oluwa said: "The employment came at the right time. It will be very helpful for me. Apart from the monetary gains, I also like the community to be clean.”
