Nigeria to participate in Royal Australian maritime event
The
Nigerian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel Class of Ship, NNS Thunder, is
on its way to Australia to participate in the Royal Australian Navy
International Fleet Review to be held in Sydney from October 3 to
October 11.
A statement by the Nigeria Navy Director
of Information, Kabiru Aliyu, stated that the ship was released
following the approval of the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
Aliyu noted that the International Fleet
Review was a historic commemorative maritime event for the Royal
Australian Navy and Australia aimed at showcasing the cordial
relationship among global maritime forces.
He said, “As part of the diplomatic role
of the Nigerian Navy, NNS Thunder will conduct flag showing visits
enroute Australia and showcase Nigeria’s naval prowess and potential in
furtherance of the nation’s foreign policy objectives. Notably, the
Nigerian Navy is the only African navy participating in the event.
