OAU Governing Council visits Ooni, receives royal blessings

Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II,  has charged the Governing Council of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife to project the image of the institution beyond Africa.

The traditional ruler gave the advice in Ile-Ife, Osun State, when the newly inaugurated Governing Council of OAU paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.

He said, “I am ready to support anybody or a group of people who are willing to use their talents, intellect and resources to further project the image of OAU to the outside world.

“I urge members of this council to use their individual wealth of experience to collectively take OAU to a much greater height, so that its image would remain towering among the comity of universities, not only in Africa, but the world at large.”

Oba Sijuwade  commended the efforts of the council members and showered them with blessings, after he presented the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Prof. Roland Ndoma-Egba, with gifts.
He prayed for the progress of the university, saying, “OAU will witness and experience an unprecedented progress, success and development during this tenure.”

Earlier,  Ndoma-Egba had emphasised the importance of the royal blessing the council members came to receive.

He stated that his council would need the political will and support of all the stakeholders in order to lubricate the academic, administrative and research engines of OAU for the overall benefit of the country and humanity as a whole.

He said, “Kabiyesi, your reign has brought peace, development and stability to this kingdom of Ile-Ife and the entire human race. We depend on your royal blessings and wisdom to succeed in everything we shall do here.

“We acknowledge the peace-making role and invaluable contributions of  the Ooni to the overall development of OAU. We shall do all we could, not just to help OAU maintain its first position among Nigerian universities, but to also be the first and the best in Africa.”
