Okoya awards 40 scholarships
The Chairman, Eleganza and Rasaq Okoya Group of Companies, Chief Razaq Okoya, has awarded full scholarship to 40 students in four higher institutions in Lagos State.
Representative of the Rasaq Okoya Foundation, Mrs. Folashade Okoya, at the scholarship presentation on Wednesday, said the offers were
made to give fillip to the founder's mission and dedication to humanity.
Folashade said, “He believes strongly in quality education and supporting the Nigerian education sector. He sponsors the education of various students, donates books and educational materials to various schools in the state.”
She noted that the gesture was geared towards the reforming of the Nigerian education sector and to encourage brilliant but indigent students to contribute to the development of the nation.
She said, “Ten scholarships, each to the tune of N100,000, would be presented to 40 beneficiaries of this year's awards who are students of the University of Lagos, Lagos State University, Yaba College of Technology and Lagos State Polytechnic.”
Folashade added that Okoya's philanthropic gestures transcend all the sectors of the national economy.
The awardees have also expressed their gratitude to Okoya. One of them, Kosoke Mazeed, who is studying Geography at the University of Lagos, said the award would enhance his pursuit of academic excellence.
He said, “I believe my struggle to be excellent academically has earned me this. I urge other students to be more focused.”
Another beneficiary, Lamidi Samuel from the Lagos State University said the award would motivate him to do better in his studies; while Nimotallah Omotosho, a student of Science Laboratory Technology from Lagos State Polytechnic, said it would propel her to excel.
A student of Yaba College of Technology, Adamson Yusuf, who also benefitted, urged students to be serious in whatever they do.
