Ogun orders school heads to sign attendance register
Heads of public primary and secondary schools in Ogun State have been ordered to always sign attendance register as they resume school on a daily basis.
A statement issued by the state stated that the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Segun Odubela gave the order in Abeokuta while monitoring the resumption of public primary and secondary schools across the state for the 2012/2013 academic year.
The commissioner, who frowned on a situation whereby only teachers signed the register, observed that their heads were not laying good examples for their subordinates to follow.
"You (the school heads) should lead by example. When you come on time and sign the attendance register accordingly, your members of staff will have no choice but to come early and do the same thing. No teacher will like his head teacher or principal to sign before him," he said.
Odubela warned that tough sanctions await principals and head teachers who failed to commence academic work and distribute textbooks to pupils within the first week of resumption.
He, however, hailed heads of schools visited for commencing academic work on the first day of resumption, charging them to ensure that books are distributed to the pupils within the week.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, state Teaching Service Commission, Ms. A. Olubukunola, has charged teachers to justify government's expenditure in the educational sector in the state.
