Govs, lawmakers preach peace, tolerance
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has urged Muslims across the country to pray for the restoration of peace in every part of the country as they celebrate the Eid-el- Maulud.
Fayemi said in a goodwill message in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday that the nation needed prayers to help it tackle the insecurity which is on the rise.
He stated that terrorism, which is being perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect, called for prayers.
Also, the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, urged tolerance and love which Prophet Mohammed exhibited during his life times.
The governor advised Nigerians to use the period to pray for the country and to also reflect on the ideals of peace, unity, harmony and selflessness in order to build a stable nation.
The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, said, “I urge all Muslims to continue to follow the exemplary leadership of the noble Prophet Mohammed for a peaceful and egalitarian society. Prophet Mohammed lived a complete life worthy of emulation by all; anybody who imbibes such exemplary leadership style would enjoy the essence of life.
“I assure all Deltans of better years ahead as we work tirelessly to bring the desired change for a better and more developed state.”
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of peaceful co-existence and be their brothers’ keepers.
He urged forgiveness and love among the citizens and added that if Nigerians did not harbour grievances against one another, it would be easier for the leadership to “paddle a national boat that contains people who live together in peace.”
Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, said Muslims should see the celebration as a time to show love to their brothers and sisters of other religions and contribute to building a more cohesive, united and peaceful nation.
He said, “We must represent in our daily lives the message of peace, love, kindness and humility that Prophet Mohammed portrayed.”
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun advised Muslims to imbibe virtues which could contribute to nation building.
He said the Mohammed was honest, accommodating, patient, patriotic, humble and always seeking to promote peace and justice among mankind.
“Why will Nigerians not live in peace with each other irrespective of religions, tribal or social background when the revered Prophet of Allah gave us a good example to follow?,” he said.
The lawmaker representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, Lagos, Babajide Akinloye, urged Nigerian to be committed to living together.
Akinloye, in a statement said the celebration provided an opportunity to both the leadership and the followership to be firm in the indivisibility of the nation.
Also, a member of the House of Representatives, Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, said the impact of the Eid-el-Maolud celebration should reflect in the actions of adherents of the Islamic faith if they indeed had a firm conviction in the exemplary life of the founder of Islam.
He said, “There are concrete lessons to learn from Allah’s messenger which include love for all mankind, peace with our neighbours and also, absolute conviction in prayers.”
