Edo Residents Jubilate Over First Rain In 2018

The rain, which started at about 5 a.m. on Tuesday, lasted for close to three hours.

Some of residents, who spoke in separate interviews, said that the rain had reduced the hotness of the weather in the area.

A resident, Mr Sadiq Isaah, said that he was able to sleep well as a result of the early morning rainfall.

"The first rain is a welcome development due to the serious heat we have been experiencing in the area," he said.

A farmer, Mr Mohammed Abdulahi, said that the rain was a sign of blessing to the community.

He said that farmers in the area were very happy because they believed the rain would enable them to plan how to start the cultivation of crops, particularly cassava and yam.

He said that the early rainfall was an indication that there would be bountiful harvest for the farmers in the area this year.

"I hope the early onset of rains will boost food production this year, I foresee a bountiful harvest this year," he added.
