I’ll contest 2015 governorship race –A’Ibom SSG
Secretary
to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Mr. Okon Umana, has denied reports
of his alleged withdrawal from the 2015 governorship race in the state.
His denial followed reports that he had
allegedly withdrawn from the race due to his nomination by the state
government for the position of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta
Development Commission.
Umana, in a statement on Tuesday,
declared his intention to contest the 2015 governorship election, saying
no nomination could stop him from contesting.
He said, “I have decided to make public
my intention to run for the office of Akwa Ibom State governor, in
response to several reports and the overwhelming pressure from the
people of the three senatorial districts of the state for me to declare
my interest in the race. I wish to assure our people that I will run for
the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State come 2015.”
Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom Professional Forum, South-West zone, has urged Umana to ensure continuity in the development of the state.
The group, in a statement by its
President, Godspower Francis, said, “We received with great joy and
relief the declaration of Umana to vie for the office of the governor of
our state in 2015. This should enhance the scintillating job the
incumbent governor is doing.”
