INEC to recruit students as adhoc staff
The FCT INEC says the commission has concluded plans to recruit students who have passed through the voters clubs in secondary schools as future adhoc staff of the commission.
Mr Okezie Nwankwo, the Head of Department, Public Affairs and Political Party Monitoring and Liaison of the commission, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.
Nwankwo said that the students had gone through the tutelage of voters’ education where were taught what the principles were all about.
“It is a partnership we wish to take to the next level, after the secondary schools, these students will be part of INEC in progress as adhoc staff.
Nwankwo said that the electoral officers in the area councils would monitor the activities of the students in the schools to ensure that they were properly educated on the rudiments of elections.
He said that the commission had put in place a module that would enable it to interact with all voter education clubs formed in the FCT.
“Since the introduction of this clubs in the secondary schools, they have been having mock elections where the students choose their leaders.
“These practical in the schools will be internalised in them as they are growing to become leaders of tomorrow who are disciplined and responsible,’’ Nwankwo said.
Nwankwo said that some secondary schools in the FCT had invited the commission to watch their activities.
He said that the establishment of clubs was an opportunity for revolution that would change the political orientation of future leaders.
