Fuel unavailability causes acute scarcity in Dutse, Jigawa capital
The scarcity has left motorists frustrated in long queues at filling stations, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The situation has negatively affected free flow of vehicular and human movement and brought hardship to the people.
A correspondent, who went round some fuel stations on Tuesday, reports that because of the non-availability of fuel in major filling stations, there are long queues of vehicles at NNPC retail stations which have stocks.
Meanwhile, in the thriving black market, a litre of petrol sold at N150.
A commercial bus driver, Haruna Manga, said that the persistent fuel scarcity had affected transport services and forced transporters out of business.
Mr. Manga said that he patronised the black market in spite of the exorbitant price.
“Most of the service stations are not dispensing fuel and the situation is pathetic and exposes us to difficulties,” Mr. Manga said.
He urged the Federal Government to adopt practical measures to end the scarcity and ensure adequate distribution of petroleum products.
The NNPC Retail Manager, Mukhtar Ishaq, said that the station was working hard to ensure adequate fuel supply to meet demands.
Mr. Shaq said that the station had received over 1.3 million litres of petrol in the last four weeks.
“We sell petrol, diesel and kerosene on daily basis to make it accessible to consumers,’’ he said.
The manager said the station sold petrol at N 97 per litre, diesel at N160 per litre and kerosene at N50 per litre. He explained that the station had taken proactive measures to ensure constant supply of the commodity.
