Expert advises businesses on total quality management
The Chief Executive Officer, Miles and Height, Mr. Joseph Edoki, has said effective Total Quality Management will enhance organisational productivity.
He said this while delivering a keynote address at the induction ceremony of new fellows and members of the Centre for Corporate and Advanced Management Studies in Lagos.
Edoki explained that TQM aided organisational improvement, especially those involved in the production of goods in large quantities.
He said, “TQM is a system approach to management that aims to continuously increase value to customers by designing and continuously improving organisational processes and systems. Total quality involves all workers and extends backward and forward to include the supply chain and the customers chain.
“TQM is customer-focused. It seeks to offer quality from the point of view of the customer. It works towards continuous improvement in the people, processes and products. It attempts at all times to constantly refine and improve value for customer.”
According to him, management and administrators must acquire appropriate knowledge, skills and multiple competences to enable them meet the current trend to thrive in organisations.
Edoki said, “An in-depth knowledge and understanding of organisational behaviour is necessary for an effective turn around.
“They must understand organisational behaviour, which will enable investigation of the impact that individuals, group, and structures made for the purpose of applying such knowledge towards achieving effectiveness.
“The use of computers and associated technologies has become pervasive in the work place.”
